It's odd but I've never really been interested in architecture but I realized that I wasn't too crazy about the modern kind- smooth, straight, sleek, shiny- not much curves. I don't hate it per se (some of it is really interesting) but it's never really drawn my attention the way traditional architecture seems to.

I suppose it has something to do with the materials being used- metal vs wood/stone or the way it was created from nothing? I have no idea. But usually everything I like is vintage-y with some amazing pioneer history behind it.

I've never actually been inside a movie palace so this was brought about randomly because I have spontaneous urges to do things and avoid studying any chance I can get. Either way, I should tell myself to look up at ceilings more.

The way a director chooses to use color in a film has always been one of the main attractions for me to watch and pay attention to a movie. And considering that Rian Johnson had talked endlessly about how the colors of the sun = the character of Penelope in The Brother's Bloom commentary- it was pretty clear that Brick's beautiful cinematography was not just a "happy accident."

After rewatching the last two seasons, I realize that there has been a lot of Old Hollywood references from both the show and magazines (aka TV Guide's allusion to the admen as the Rat Pack). So I thought it'd be fun to collect all of them, compare and contrast, maybe even suggest some other character's possible likeness to famous starlets. I got stuck on a couple of them- so if anyone has any ideas, I'd be glad to hear them.

So this is basically what I've been up to and I've decided that I'll more than likely be doing more movie fanvids- that is when my next inspiration strikes. Anyways, I was in a crazed circus mood...which is slowly fading...and did two fanvids (Bye Bye Blackbird and the other period piece films) both with the same song. My favorite is the first though.

I've been contemplating finding new music for the past few months and this Ashes to Ashes fanmix ended up being a detour of said thought. So if you needed some new music and were too lazy to look, I've done the work for you. This is also my first foray into fanmix/fan art land and I have to say I'm pretty impressed with myself. I especially love that back cover. I winged that one and it came out so pretty! I also have a few different covers for the front, by way of experimenting, just in case you have different tastes and want to choose your own. And people like choices, right?

Just a couple of notes, the music is mainly comprised of indie rock/pop, post punk, dance funk, new wave, electronic, etc. Side A mostly contains 80's new wave/punk or influences of the genre (this is for the head boppers) while side B holds more modern/dance-y beats. Oddly enough, (I really wasn't planning it) the songs have this running theme attached to them of either love or death but I suppose the most chaotic events attract the most overwhelming emotions, which more or less, always makes up for great music. Whoa, got a little philosophical there. Sorry about that.

What else? There are two songs (Bizarre Love Triangle and Walking On Thin Ice) that have been edited by me because they were bordering on the long side (about 7 minutes) but if you would like to hear the full versions- you can download them here. I tried to find the shorter version of Love Triangle but gave up soon after and I tried to replicate this version of On Thin Ice. There are a few notes/reccs about the artists themselves if you were wondering who these fabulous people were.

I started this little project on the fly about two months ago when I was on a New Order high- it turned out quite decently but it took some time learning the whole fanvidding process. I was thinking of doing another one... (heh) which is probably a bad idea since I have five million things that I keep shafting for other spontaneous projects I'm coming up with. Like my Ashes to Ashes party fanmix.
